Body Speak

Most people live deeply disconnected from their bodies. In a lifestyle dominated by the rational mind, many of us have become highly skilled at thinking, analyzing, and running endless scenarios in our heads, while our connection to the body has weakened, and truly feeling emotions and bodily sensations has become unfamiliar and difficult.

As a result of societal conditioning and past experiences, you too may have learned to override your body and simply keep going. In the long run, however, this strategy begins to fail, and eventually your body starts screaming for attention.

You may be able to explain in great detail why and how stressful your life is without actually recognizing the bodily signs of stress — such as shallow breathing, a tense stomach, tight shoulders, a restless gaze, the constant need to be on your phone, or relying on caffeine and sugar for stimulation.

And there is a good reason for this.

Your connection to the body may be weak because, at some point, being connected to it did not feel safe. So your wise body dimmed its signals in order to reduce how much you had to feel. But things are different now. You have begun to notice that muting your body’s signals is actually interfering with your life, and along with the difficult sensations, you have also lost access to pleasure, intuition, and the body’s natural wisdom. Although disconnection from the body may once have been a helpful survival strategy, it no longer serves you.

Signs that you are stuck in the mind instead of allowing emotions to move through the body:

  • difficulty identifying, understanding, or describing what you feel or what your body feels like in the moment
  • overthinking, endless mental scenarios, and constant analysis
  • understanding your challenges intellectually, but feeling very little emotionally — even major life events may feel strangely numb despite causing intense mental processing
  • immediately trying to solve things without allowing space to feel the emotions they evoke
  • ignoring bodily signals: only noticing hunger, fatigue, or the need to use the bathroom at the last moment if at all
  • emotions turning into thoughts and stories instead of moving through the body as lived experiences, causing them to become stuck and manifest physically (insomnia, digestive issues, etc.)
  • emotional outbursts appearing suddenly, intensely, or in unexpected situations
  • difficulty slowing down and simply being; always needing stimulation, a phone, a podcast, or something to do
  • physical symptoms and pains that fluctuate
  • being in the body feels difficult, boring, or uncomfortable
  • body scan practices trigger frustration, irritation, or discomfort
  • slowing down and breathing exercises feel boring, unproductive, or may even worsen your state instead of bringing calm or peace

You may be extremely skilled at understanding your own challenges, recognizing their root causes, and even viewing life from spiritual or metaphysical perspectives. What may still be missing, however, is the ability to embody what you feel.

This course offers tools to rebuild your connection with the body and to live from an embodied place, not solely from the mind.

You may also have heard that the body holds wisdom and that you should “listen to your body.” But perhaps the only thing you hear is a dull headache or aching joints… So how do you actually listen to the body? What does “listening to the body” even mean?

In this course, we begin with the foundations and help you reconnect with your body and its signals. You will learn what body listening means in practice and how to live with greater embodiment and somatic awareness.

In this course we will explore:

  • what it means to listen to the body
  • why you disconnect from the body
  • what your nervous system is trying to communicate
  • why the body does not speak in words, but through sensations and experiences
  • how to recognize different internal states
  • the body’s various signals
  • the body and emotions
  • body memory
  • how to communicate safety to the body
  • embodiment exercises and reflections on your body’s messages
  • opportunities to ask questions

This course will give you the tools to listen to and understand what your body is trying to tell you. You will also learn how to communicate safety to your nervous system through lived experience and sensation rather than through mental affirmations alone.

In other words, you will become fluent in the language between you and your body.

You will develop a relationship in which you understand your body’s messages — and can also communicate with your body in a way it genuinely understands. This kind of connection allows emotions and experiences to move and process more smoothly, helping ease anxiety, overthinking, stuckness, and other symptoms.

This course will help you

  • hear your body’s signals
  • feel emotions as they arise
  • notice when you are disconnected and gradually reconnect
  • put bodily sensations into words
  • connect bodily sensations to life situations, emotions, and experiences
  • live more from the wisdom of the body
